Current team
Niklas Anderson
Niklas Anderson is a student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering MS program, with a focus on computer architecture. He has previously worked in software engineering and web development, and got his first hands-on experience at the command line while volunteering at Free Geek in SE Portland. When not busy with school or work, he enjoys cooking, traveling with friends, long bike rides, and honing his pickleball serve.
Tanay Arora
Tanay is a rising sophomore at Jesuit High. He has been interested in machine learning since he was 9 and has kept up with much of the most prominent research since. Recently, he has taken a deep dive into LLM compression. He enjoys all type of computer science, basketball, Catan, and dal chaval.
Marcus Campbell is an Army Veteran researching neuromorphic computing with an emphasis on scalable, low-power spiking neural network systems. His work focuses on expanding access to physical neuromorphic hardware for real-world applications in defense, healthcare, manufacturing, and edge AI. Marcus is particularly interested in building the foundational infrastructure to support collaborative research and experimentation with neuromorphic technologies.
Edwin Chen is a sophomore at Lincoln High School. He’s interested in programming in general and is versed in a variety of frameworks and libraries. He is also 2000 rated on codeforces and therefore inherited a massive ego(jk). He doesn’t have a phone and never uses social media, and his favorite hobby is programming.
Crow is a graduate student at Portland State University pursuing his MS in ECE. His professional background is in edible landscaping having spent years in the field pruning fruit trees, grape vines, and berries of all sorts. He previously attended the University of Arizona and earned a BA with double major in Poetry and Religious Studies. His goal is to find solutions to agricultural challenges and food insecurity through his research. He spends as much time as he can in the garden, outdoors, or around a fire.
Byron Gregg (right in photo) is an Design Automation Engineer for Intel and a continuing Graduate student at Portland State pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Byron’s professional background has included 8 years working in Semiconductor Fabrication, Fault Isolation, Failure Analysis, Automation, and most recently DFT Design Methodology (all at Intel). Byron previously attended PSU 2018-2019, completing his MS in ECE focusing on Digital IC Design, Test, and Validation. Over the years, Byron has maintained a wide breadth of interest in various STEM topics. These include Machine Learning, Quantum Computing, Computer Architecture, Adiabatic Computing, Thermodynamic Computing, Semi-Conductor Device Fabrication, Superconductivity, and more. In his free time, Byron likes to travel with his family, read, and play guitar.
Eleanor Hall
Eleanor Hall is a rising junior at the Catlin Gabel School. She has always had a vested interest in social inequalities, and is hopeful for a future where they could be combated with new technologies and AI. She loves fashion and being outdoors, whether playing sports or simply enjoying the PNW.
Lucas Klotz is an undergrad Computer Science student whose interested in writing creative applications for musical and visual artists. His primary focus as an undergrad is to gain professional, technical, and soft skills that will help him be a more effective software engineer in the future. Lucas is very open-minded to exploring new applications of CS, and is excited about the wide range of possibilities in the field.
Tucker Mastin
Tucker is an Electrical and Computer Engineering Graduate student. After obtaining undergraduate degrees in Applied Physics and Computer Science, he gained industry experience in semiconductor manufacturing before joining a patent law firm as a scientific / technical consultant. His research interests lie in complex, emergent dynamics found at the intersection of computational neuroscience, statistical mechanics, and neuromorphic computing. Outside of school and work, Tucker can be found playing upright bass in various bands and hanging out with his wife and their big orange cat.
Silas McNeal
Silas is a rising Junior at Baker Early College High School. He is passionate about learning more in the fields of Computer Science, Math, Computer Engineering, and Neuromorphic computing. Silas plans to double major Computer Science and ECE at Portland State University. Outside of school he enjoys playing with his dogs, reading, playing video games, and sleeping.
Deejay Santomin
Deejay Santomin is an undergraduate Electrical Engineering student at Portland State University with interests in sustainable infrastructure, community-driven design, and applied research. He is passionate about using engineering to create practical, impactful solutions for local communities back on his home island of Saipan. Outside of academics, Deejay enjoys videography and photography, where he explores storytelling through visual media.
Sagar Vaishnav
Sagar is a Junior at Westview High School who is broadly interested in computer science, electrical engineering, and computational neuroscience. He has worked with Computer Vision models in the context of biological and lab-based imaging. Outside of research, he enjoys horseback riding and polo, playing basketball, and reading both technical material and books for fun. He is currently exploring research directions at the intersection of computation and engineering.
Betty Wu-Zhen
Betty Wu-Zhen is an undergraduate at Portland State University, pursuing a BS in Biochemistry with a Pre-Medical Laboratory Scientist Track. She has some experience working in wet labs and is interested in pursuing a career in the medical field.
